About the Show

Big HUGE small works is a group exhibition showcasing works by Kingston Gallery Members and Kingston Associates. The show features smaller art works in a wide variety of media, all highlighting some aspect of the important concept of scale. Each of the artists applies a unique approach to the questions: “How do we define the relative ideas of bigness and smallness?” and “What scale of measurement is appropriate to use when measuring a visual idea?” The works in the show offer a wide spectrum of interpretive variations on this theme, all of which are guaranteed to engage viewers in thoughtful contemplation and visual delight.

AIB MFA Alumni Biennial Exhibition “Objectified”

without comments

I am pleased to announce my painting Diffraction is in this alumni show.

Below is a video about the exhibition produced by the curatorial committee.

And here is a link to the exhibition catalog on blurb.com

ABOUT THE SHOW

Lesley University’s Art Institute of Boston invites you to experience the unique interpretations of more than 120 talented AIB MFA Alumni from across the United States and beyond as they come together to create one of the largest exhibitions in New England this year. The exhibit, entitled “Objectified,” opens Friday, January 4th at Washburn Hall, 10 Phillips Place, Cambridge, with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition will run through January 12th.

The theme for this year’s Biennial—“Objectified”—challenges the AIB artists to explore the dynamic range of power inherent in objectifying a subject or conversely, by focusing intently and decisively on a single object. More than 300 people visited the first MFA Alumni exhibition opening, and the University is expecting this event to be just as spectacularly attended.

The AIB MFA Alumni have orchestrated this group exhibition in cooperation with Lesley University as a celebration of the diversity and strength of the creative bonds forged in AIB’s intensive low-residency MFA program. This exhibition is also dedicated toward fostering deeper ties between AIB and the main Lesley University campus as AIB prepares to transition to its new location in Porter Square, Cambridge, MA.

To follow the progress of the show, please visit the exhibition’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/AibMfaAlumniExhibition

Fresh Visions: Painting Now

without comments

Entanglement, acrylic on panel, 16 x 16 inches

I am pleased to announce that my two paintings, Entanglement and Diffraction  have been accepted into the show “Fresh Visions: Painting Now,” at the Hopkinton Art Center,  juried by Zola Solamente from Arden Gallery, Boston.

ABOUT THE SHOW

In the wake of new media such as installation, video and digital art, painting continues to thrive. Artists have extended the practice of painting considerably, exploring various styles, materials and methods. These include photo-realism, landscape, still-life, portraiture, abstract, neo-expressionism and more. We look forward to showcasing the broad range of work that comprises contemporary painting in our Fall show, Fresh Visions: Painting Now.

Diffraction, acrylic on panel, 30 x 30 inches

Juror, Zola Solamente, has been the director of Arden Gallery on Newbury Street in Boston, MA since 2001. During that time she has curated numerous exhibitions representing nationally and internationally recognized artists. Zola has juried various group shows for regional academic, non-profit, and private settings. Zola also has served as a consultant for working artist-members of diverse studio cooperatives in and around Boston. In addition, she has offered her advise and expertise to undergraduate art students as they emerge from school and enter the world of selling art.

I hope you can join me for the opening reception with the juror and other artists!

“Spontaneous Order” 2-Person Exhibition with Mary O’Malley at Porter Mill Gallery

with 5 comments

The Gallery at Porter Mill is pleased to present “Spontaneous Order,” a two-person exhibition featuring the paintings of local artists Lynda Schlosberg and Mary O’Malley. Both Schlosberg and O’Malley maintain working studios at Porter Mill. Their work is linked both visually and conceptually and is bound by an exploration of color, mark making, labor-intensive processes, and a play with scale. On their own, these works are powerful and visceral, when paired together they create a dynamic visual and transcendent experience. Porter Mill artist and fashion designer Ashley Conchieri will have her designs on display in Porter Mill’s alternative Three Pane Display Space for the month of September as well.
